IQC & Calibration Guide
13.7.1 | SYSTEM MONITORING
Select 'System Monitoring' to open the programs for checking the optical properties of the instrument. These tests can be carried out directly with the instrument, without additional material.
System Check
Checks the lamp, wavelength accuracy, filters and detector.
Lamp Check
Records the lamp curve and compares it with the stored set-points.
Wavelength Accuracy
Checks wavelength accuracy against the tolerances specified in the certificate.
13.7.1.1 | SYSTEM CHECK
1. Select the 'System Check' Icon to open the dialog.
2. Press the 'Play' symbol to start the check manually.
3. The instrument performs a lamp test, wavelength accuracy test, filter test and detector test. This can take a few minutes; measurements are unavailable while the check is running.
4. The result appears in the overview window.
If one or more tests fail:
Restart the device and repeat the measurements. If the problem persists, contact the manufacturer or local distributor.
13.7.1.2 | LAMP CHECK
The Lamp Check confirms the installed halogen lamp is working properly.
1. Start the lamp check from the menu.
2. The instrument records a lamp curve and compares it with stored setpoints.
3. The instrument evaluates the test result.
4. Export the result to an external storage device as a CSV file.
13.7.1.3 | WAVELENGTH ACCURACY CHECK
The result can be printed as a certificate or saved to an external storage as a CSV or PDF File.
Result outside tolerance
If the result falls outside the tolerances specified in the certificate, contact Chris Hoskyn (choskyn@esslab.com).
13.7.2 | STANDARD MEASUREMENT
Standard measurements are used to check your work and the performance of the photometer and analytical accessories. Standards are available as standard and spiking solutions. See MACHEREY-NAGEL for product information.
1. Select the standards icon to open the standard-selection window.
2. Choose a standard from the dynamic list, or select Add to define a new standard.
3. For a predefined standard, method, submethod, cuvette, setpoint and margin fields are populated automatically.
4. Enter the LOT number for the test kit and standard, then confirm to open the measurement window.
5. Insert the appropriate sample solution and confirm to run the measurement.
6. Review the result. The instrument displays Passed (green) or Failed (red). The measured value is compared with the reference value of the standard solution.
Sample information can be entered using the icons below the results window. Additional options and new sample information are available from the relevant menu icons.
THIS IS AVAILABLE IN OPEN MODE ONLY
The standard measurement function is available in Open Mode.
Select Do not Save if the result should not be saved in instrument memory when the cuvette is removed or when leaving the menu.
13.6 | CALIBRATION
The spectrophotometer performs a self-test at startup to check basic calibration. Zero calibration and turbidity calibration can also be run manually from the Calibration menu.
13.6.1 Zero Calibration
1. Select Zero Calibration.
2. Select the cuvette size and confirm to start.
3. The instrument performs an air measurement, then asks you to insert the calibration cuvette.
4. Insert the supplied calibration cuvette into the cuvette shaft; calibration continues automatically.
5. When complete, the date is stored and displayed the next time the procedure is opened.
Calibration Cuvette Care
Ensure the calibration cuvette is free of scratches and turbidity. If necessary, measure turbidity before calibration (target below 2 NTU). Clean the outside with the supplied cuvette-cleaning cloth.
13.6.2 Turbidity Calibration
1. Select Turbidity Calibration and choose the cuvette size.
2. Confirm to start the procedure.
3. Insert the corresponding standards in sequence as prompted; the instrument starts each measurement automatically.
4. When complete, the calibration date is stored and displayed the next time the procedure is opened.
Calibration results can be exported to an external storage device as CSV files.

13.2 | UPDATE & BACKUP
The Update & Backup menu contains Firmware update, Method update and Backup options.
Back up before Updating
A data backup is recommended before each update. Export Customer-specific special methods to an external storage medium, such as a USB stick.
Download the update folder from the MACHEREY-NAGEL website, unzip it and follow the instructions in the update manual.
13.3 - 13.5 | SYSTEM RESET, BATTERY & SERVICE
13.3 System reset
A system reset restores default settings and deletes data, special methods and custom settings. Back up saved data, special methods and user-defined settings first. Confirm with Yes when prompted to reset the instrument.
13.4 Battery
The Battery menu displays information about the internal lithium-ion battery, including capacity, status and voltage. Have this information available when contacting MACHEREY-NAGEL Technical Support.
13.5 Service
The password-protected Service menu is reserved for authorised technicians carrying out servicing work.
