EPA/USP Method
Method 8321 is applicable to the determination, by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), coupled with either thermospray-mass spectrometry (TSPMS), and/or ultraviolet (UV), of disperse azo dyes, organophosphorus compounds, and Tris-(2,3-dibromopropyl) phosphate, in wastewater, ground water, sludge, soil/sediment matrices, and chlorinated phenoxyacid compounds, and their esters. Quantitative analysis is performed by TSP/MS, using an external standard approach. Sample extracts can be analyzed by direct injection into the thermospray or onto a liquid chromatographic-thermospray interface. Note that detection is achieved both by negative ionization (discharge electrode) and positive ionization, with a single quadrupole mass spectrometer. Since this method is based on an HPLC technique, the use of ultraviolet (UV) detection is optional for routine samples
EPA Method Series Information
The EPA Method 500 series includes methods and guidelines for drinking water standards designed to identify and quantify organic compounds in municipal drinking water.
The EPA Method 600 series guidelines are typically used in conjunction with the EPA 500 series to provide a comprehensive set of methods for monitoring organic pollutants in wastewater under the United States Clean Water Act.
The EPA Method 8000 series include methods for a wide range of organic compounds, including volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, pesticides, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
