General Information:
Diazinon is a general purpose insecticide. It is moderately soluble and highly volatile. Based on its cheiical properties it has a low risk of leaching to groundwater however, incidents of contamination have been noted and it should be considered a potential groundwater pollutant. It is non-persistent in soil but stable in aqueous environments. It is listed as a severe marine pollutant. Moderately toxic to mammals and earthworms. In humans and other mammals it is a neurotoxicant. Considered highly toxic to most aquatic organisms, honeybees and birds.

USP Method 561 - Phosphorus Pesticides: Determination of pesticides in articles of botanical origin by gas chromatography. Many botanicals are treated as dietary supplements and are subject to statutory provisions that govern foods.
EPA Method Series Information
The EPA Method 500 series includes methods and guidelines for drinking water standards designed to identify and quantify organic compounds in municipal drinking water.
The EPA Method 600 series guidelines are typically used in conjunction with the EPA 500 series to provide a comprehensive set of methods for monitoring organic pollutants in wastewater under the United States Clean Water Act.
The EPA Method 8000 series include methods for a wide range of organic compounds, including volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, pesticides, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
