General Information:
Endothal is a selective, contact herbicide. It is highly soluble in water and semi-volatile. Based on its chemical properties it is not expected to leach to groundwater. It is generally non-persistent in soils. Endothal is highly toxic to mammals but is not expected to bioaccumulate. It is a recognised irritant. It is moderately toxic to fish and aquatic organisms but is less toxic to birds. A chiral molecule with 4 theoretical stereoisomers. The rel-(1R,2S,3R,4S)- isomer is the most effective herbicide.
EPA/USP Method
Method 548 is applicable in the N-Methylcarbamoyloximes and N-Methylcarbamates in ground water and finished drinking water, by aqueous derivatization, liquid-solid extraction, and gas chromatography with electron-capture detection. Method 548.1 is applicable for the identification and simultaneous measurement of Endothal in drinking water sources and finished drinking water by ion exchange extraction, acidic methanol methylation, and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.
EPA Method Series Information
The EPA Method 500 series includes methods and guidelines for drinking water standards designed to identify and quantify organic compounds in municipal drinking water.
The EPA Method 600 series guidelines are typically used in conjunction with the EPA 500 series to provide a comprehensive set of methods for monitoring organic pollutants in wastewater under the United States Clean Water Act.
The EPA Method 8000 series include methods for a wide range of organic compounds, including volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, pesticides, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
